Canadian Steel Trade and Employment Congress is pleased to announce the selection of Ron McClure as the National Project Manager to administer its Sector Study Update of the Canadian Steel Industry.
The steel industry has been transformed over last two years with global consolidation and foreign acquisitions of Canadian steel firms. This transformation of ownership has created the requirement for better sector intelligence and the need to identify/confirm the HR issues of the sector.
The sector study will provide a comprehensive diagnosis of the short and long-term human resource issues and challenges facing the steel industry, as well as, provide a basis for developing a human resource strategy (action plan) for the broader industry including basic steel, fabricators, and service centres. The results will ensure CSTEC's future activities reflect the steel industry's needs.
Ron brings 32 years experience in the steel industry, all at the former Stelco Inc., where he rose from Labour Relations Assistant at the Hilton Works to Chief Human Resources Officer, Stelco Inc. until his retirement in 2006. He has held positions at Stelco operations across the country and, therefore, has a vast knowledge of issues specific to a variety of regions. In addition, Ron is highly regarded and respected by the union representatives who have dealt with him.
Ron, also, brings a large network of connections across the country to this pan-Canadian project having served as President of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, Simcoe and District Chambers of Commerce, and the Haldimand and Norfolk Manufacturer's Association.
It is expected that the duration of the project will be from September 1, 2009 and end July 31, 2011.
