8/20/2009CSTEC is seeking to hire a Northern Ontario Regional Coordinator to work on a contract basis as part of an agreement between CSTEC and the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
The key objective of this agreement is to develop relationships and frameworks that will link industry, unions, education institutions and governments to promote and implement apprenticeship programs and to increase the number of certified skilled trades in Northern steel making and related communities.
This agreement between CSTEC and MTCU runs until March 31st, 2010 (with a possibility of a one year extension). The monthly compensation for this position is $5,392.
Specifically, the Regional Coordinator will report to National Apprenticeship Project Manager and will be responsible for, but not limited to the following activities:
·Promote the trades as an excellent career opportunity in schools, job fairs etc.
·Assist local workplaces with the development and/or expansion of their local apprenticeship programs.
·Establish local workplace apprenticeship committees where needed.
·Assist in the development and delivery of mentor training to journeyperson trainers where needed.
· Assist with college relationships
·Assist with accessing government funding.
·Assist with overall program administration.
·Assist in the promotion, the establishment and the operation of regional/industry apprenticeship consortia in Northern Ontario.
·Track all placement related data to ensure that data-driven decisions can be made by the members of the consortia.
·Co-ordinate the CSTEC sponsorship of apprentices, where needed, as part of the apprenticeship consortia services to smaller workplaces
·Generate and provide timely and more complete labour market information, which will make planning easier in future years.
·Ensure all entry points are accessible, including high school, current workforce, aboriginals, women, and internationally trained workers.
·Assist in processes to update and review apprenticeship curricula.
·Assist in the overall promotion of CSTEC and its services in Northern Ontario.
The ideal candidate for the position of Northern Ontario Regional Coordinator will have the following essential qualifications:
·Excellent written and oral communications skills, including writing timely monthly and final reports, sufficient in both scope and detail to satisfy the terms of our agreement with MTCU.
·Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
·In-depth knowledge of the Northern steel making and related communities and demonstrated ability to work in a highly unionised environment.
·Proven track-record of project management; including tracking progress of the project against work-plans.
·Familiarity with adult education principles would be an asset.
·Proven knowledge of the community college system would be an asset.
·Experience with issues related to apprenticeship programs would be an asset
·Willingness to travel.
·The ability to speak and write French would be considered an asset.
