On Wednesday April 29th 2009, the SWOIEC will be holding a Career Forum -- Changes and Opportunities from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm at the Caboto Club, 2175 Parent Avenue Windsor. Admission is free. The Forum will showcase career and continuous learning opportunities within various sectors to displaced workers in the Windsor/Essex County area. Most of these workers are from the manufacturing sector. Some are seeking a new career, while others want to stay within manufacturing, but need to update their skills.
Windsor currently suffers the highest unemployment in Canada. A further loss of 1,800 jobs in the month of January 2009 alone brought the unemployment rate to 10.9%. Based on these statistics and the SWOIEC's plan to market the forum extensively throughout the Community, it is expected there will be a high demand for information on future careers opportunities and therefore a strong turnout.
Nine Local Labour Adjustment Committees, St. Clair College, the University of Windsor, Second Career, and Human Resources and Skill Development Canada, the Canadian Steel Trade and Employment Congress are just few of the organizations that will be in attendance. Guest speakers will also be leading scheduled workshops throughout the day in a separate room.
The Career Forum should be of particular interest to the unemployed, underemployed, educators, employment counsellors, parents and the general public. For more information, contact Karen Mingay at 519 967-9957 or karen@bizzbuzz.biz.
